The PARADIGM SHIFT

Once again a big dark murky silence, I myself do not remember when was the last time I sat down to write a blog on User Experience, Information Architecture or Visual Design. As if I was crossing past a big vacuum in laps of time. A year past maybe, well I am not sure since I don’t look back to my posts unless there is a real need of doing so.
Nevertheless, what I was doing? Silently watching the transition? or transformation? Or, trying to take a shape that organizations envisioning?
That big vacuum has left a big question to me.  What Next?  What is the single big next thing is going to happen or as an Information Architect, what should we try and adapt fast? There are too many things…Single responsibility principle is likely to abolish.
Therefore, in writing this blog I am actually searching for an answer, leaving a question for everybody WHAT …? Is the single next big thing…
a)    Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
b)   Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality – AR/VR
c)    RPA
d)   IOT
e)    Analytics
f)     Blockchain
g)    Deep Learning
h)   Cybersecurity
i)     UX- Nuroresearch/CRO/Voice UI/ AR and Foldables

Technology people are asking for a BIG LEAP in reducing Manpower by embracing ROBOTS. So there are Chatbot/Blockchain /AI/. Though I believe, they are likely to create more avenues for us reducing the mundane job if we grasp the concept of having a BUTLER. But that is a different topic and will be dealt with later on.

Information Architects are busy with Design thinking. They are busy with creating route maps for users. Armed with Empathy and Emotion they turned into a consultant – UX or CX. They have learned new skills besides honing their core skills. Visual Designer turned into an Information Architect – collecting and procuring data, labeling them in right orders and creating wireframes. Therefore, everything turned into one or the others. In addition, the whole UX fraternity is transforming for the better – becoming cognitive, data-centric and automated.

Therefore, I will today attempt to flesh out my energy with the unveiling of some major new initiative designed to improve the solution in each space.

Let me start with Ethnography and Quantitative user (UX/ CX,) research becomes the focus. So, Anthropologist / Phycologist / Neuro-Marketers are all set to venture into the deepest darkness of Human Psyche. However, the point of caution let us not miss the boat, it is not about the process or the names it is about knowing the person or the behavior that bring a change.

One can get plenty of dopes on ‘how to do things’ from books, YouTube and other channels – but what to record is the trick, and that is important. Create an engaging conversation, test it (small pilot tests) measure value and start implementing them.
There is an example I found on the internet, you can try out this all but trust me if you are not a product designer or if you are working in IT Companies or any service org you are not likely to get time this to happen. So automated tools can do much of this work such as Sessioncam (https://sessioncam.com/), Dynamic Yield (https://www.dynamicyield.com/)  (AI enable Conversion Rate Optimization ie CRO- tool )

After Customer Research Other Major, part is Animation, motion and transitions convey a lot of information in a tiny part. Beyond that, Animation becomes an integral part of Branding Exercise, blending imagination with experience. Adobe After Effects, Principle, Figma, InVision/ Lottie. /Animate.css./Anime.js. other than final cut pro X – which lets even non-professionals easily animate 2D and 3D titles.  (https://www.apple.com/in/final-cut-pro/trial/) are very useful. Purposeful animation in user interfaces has to very judgmental and judicial use of it can churn out stunning results.

Once again, we need to be selective while using animation. What you see as a designer is not what a customer sees as a… customer. Use it when it is necessary.

Storytelling and Voice UI

People love stories, they are engaging – ‘Cinemas’, ‘Netflix’, ‘Amazon PrimeVedio’, ‘Hotstars’ are invading every household. UX went immersive, Interactive Movies are rampaged through smartphones, handheld devises, and TVs. Think about 'Black Mirror: Bandersnatch' where viewers make decisions for the main character, Stefan Butler. So there you see, your face off has to be a movie like a situation where stories will intertwine with Cinematography. Please Remember - When we hear a story, the neural activity in the brain increases fivefold, meaning that we are much more likely to remember the story and the message it’s trying to convey.
If Memorability translates user value into reality, Voice continues to be a talking point since then we learned to give orders to the system verbally - Alexa please play ‘Romeo Juliet- mark Knopfler’ and its start playing the song. We love Assistants, Butlers, the immutable laws of human laziness. A market is to continue to grow and voice-first devices will have a valuable impact on people’s lives. More than so ever industry will require voice applications that cater experience from mediocre to magical.

‘The PARADIGM SHIFT’ will continue and in the coming posts I shall touch upon - Surreal design/3D rendering and CG augmentation/ AR and Foldable/ Surge of Photo Driven Interface, Illustrations and AI AI-based Researches and share my views on the, till then-

To be continued …
